Definition
Chevron crochet — also called ripple or wave crochet — forms a repeating zigzag by grouping increases and decreases at fixed intervals.
Overview
Sharp peaks come from stacking increases and decreases in single stitches; soft waves come from spreading them over several. The same row logic covers both.
Stripes are almost inevitable here because the zigzag makes colour changes dramatic, and each new colour reads as a wave rather than a line.
Characteristics
- Regular increases and decreases produce the zigzag
- Colour striping is exaggerated by the shape
- Edges are naturally uneven unless straightened
Typical uses
- Blankets and throws
- Baby blankets
- Scarves
- Cushion fronts
