Definition
A pineapple is a motif, not a stitch: a ring of double crochets sends up an expanding then contracting field of chain loops that resembles pineapple skin.
Overview
Pineapples are popular because they are self-shaping — the motif widens and narrows on its own, so a shawl or doily gains its silhouette without separate shaping instructions.
They read best in smooth, firm thread; fuzzy yarn closes the chain loops and the pattern disappears.
Characteristics
