Definition
Bag hardware covers leather or bamboo handles, D-rings, swivel clasps, zips, feet and rigid bases, plus the sewn lining that carries the load.
Overview
A lining is not decoration: it stops stretch, hides seams and stops small items falling through the stitches.
Attachment points take all the stress, so handles are reinforced with tabs and hand-stitched rather than glued.
Characteristics
- Lining prevents stretch
- Reinforced attachment points
- Hand-stitched, never glued
Typical uses
- Tote bags
- Shoulder bags
- Clutches
- Baskets with handles
