Definition
Blocking equipment holds a damp or steamed piece in its intended shape until dry: foam mats, T-pins, flexible wires and blocking combs.
Overview
Lace is a different object before and after blocking; nothing else in finishing changes a piece so much.
Pins must be rustproof — one steel pin can stain a cream doily permanently.
Characteristics
- Foam mats and rustproof pins
- Wires for straight edges
- Steam for wool, wet for cotton
Typical uses
- Doilies and lace
- Garment panels
- Squares before joining
- Flower petals
