Definition
Brussels crochet describes fine thread crochet that emulates the motif-and-ground structure of Belgian Brussels lace.
Overview
Like Irish crochet it separates figure from ground: flowers, scrolls and leaves are worked first, then linked with a very fine mesh. The motifs tend to be flatter and more formal than Irish crochet's padded roses.
The term is used loosely in crochet literature and overlaps with Bruges and guipure-style work, so patterns sold under this name vary considerably.
