Definition
Crochet embroidery applies needle embroidery — satin stitch, back stitch, French knots, duplicate stitch — to a completed crocheted ground.
Overview
It is how most amigurumi faces are made, and how fine detail such as whiskers, script and small florals is added without disrupting the crocheted structure.
Working over a firm, evenly spaced ground gives the best result; very open lace does not support dense embroidery well.
Characteristics
- Applied after the crochet is finished
- Allows detail finer than the crochet gauge
- Fully reversible before the ends are secured
Typical uses
- Amigurumi faces
- Monograms and dates
- Floral detail
- Colour accents
