Definition
Chain mesh lace is a filling: arcs of chains anchored with single crochets, worked on a regular or deliberately irregular grid to connect motifs.
Overview
On its own it is the fastest lace there is — a shawl of chain arcs grows in an evening. In motif lace it is invisible support, and its irregularity is what makes handmade lace read as handmade.
Loop length controls everything: short arcs give a firm net, long arcs a drapey, fragile one.
