Definition
Mesh crochet alternates stitches with chain spaces on a regular grid, producing an even net that can be square, diamond or trellis shaped.
Overview
Mesh is fast, uses little yarn and stretches generously, which is why market bags rely on it. The same structure at fine gauge becomes the ground for filet and other lace.
Because it stretches, mesh needs firm edging and, in bags, a solid base to prevent sagging under weight.
Characteristics
- Regular grid of chain spaces
- Very light and stretchy
- Needs firm borders to hold shape
Typical uses
- Market and beach bags
- Cover-ups
- Curtain panels
- Lace grounds
