Definition
Filet lace works a net of open squares (spaces) and filled squares (blocks) from a chart, so the design appears as a two-tone image in a single colour of thread.
Overview
Because the grid is strictly regular, filet is the easiest lace to chart and the least forgiving of tension drift — one loose row shows immediately.
Traditional charts favour monograms, birds, vines and religious motifs; modern charts do anything a pixel grid can hold.
Characteristics
- Strict square grid of blocks and spaces
