Definition
Each foundation stitch creates its own chain at the base while completing the stitch above it.

The same logic extends to foundation half double and double crochet.
Characteristics
- No separate starting chain
- Stretchy edge
- Easy to lengthen mid-project
Typical uses
- Garment hems
- Scarves
- Bag tops
- Blanket starts
