Magic Ring
An adjustable starting loop that closes completely — essential for amigurumi with no centre hole.

Definition
The first round is worked over a loop of yarn rather than a chain ring, then the tail is pulled to close the centre entirely.
Overview
Without it, round starts leave a hole that stuffing shows through, which is why every amigurumi pattern opens with one.
The tail must be woven in securely; a magic ring that was never anchored can work loose over time.
Characteristics
- Fully closable centre
- Adjustable
- Needs the tail secured well
Typical uses
- Amigurumi
- Hats worked top-down
- Flower centres
- Baskets
