Definition
Join-as-you-go, often abbreviated JAYG, connects each new motif to finished motifs while working its last round, replacing separate seaming.
Overview
Because joins happen inside a round, the seam is nearly invisible and the fabric stays flat. It also removes the discouraging pile of unjoined squares that ends many motif projects.
Joins can be made through chain spaces, into stitch tops, or with a flat slip-stitch method; each gives a slightly different degree of firmness at the seam.
Characteristics
- No separate seaming stage
- Nearly invisible, flat joins
- Requires planning the layout in advance
Typical uses
- Motif blankets
- Hexagon garments
- Large table linen
- Cushion panels
