Definition
Seamless crochet builds a project in a single continuous piece — in the round, top-down or bottom-up — rather than making panels that are joined afterwards.
Overview
For garments this means trying on as you work, easy length adjustment and no seam bulk under the arms. For toys and bags it means no weak point that can split under strain.
The trade-off is structure: seams add stability, so a seamless garment in a heavy yarn may stretch over time unless the shoulders or base are reinforced.
Characteristics
- Worked in one piece with no sewn joins
- Fit can be checked continuously while working
- May need reinforcement where seams would have added support
Typical uses
- Sweaters and cardigans
- Hats
- Amigurumi bodies
- Bags
