Definition
Tunisian mosaic works charted colourwork by alternating colours between rows and using extended or dropped stitches to place contrast, in the manner of mosaic crochet.
Overview
Because Tunisian fabric is already grid-like, charts map onto it almost one-to-one, and the dense structure makes the graphics look printed rather than knitted.
The technique produces heavy fabric, so it works best for blankets, bags and cushions rather than garments.
Characteristics
- One colour per row pair
- Charted geometric designs
- Heavy, stable, hard-wearing fabric
Typical uses
- Blankets
- Bags
- Cushions
- Rugs
