Definition

Tunisian entrelac builds a fabric from individually worked Tunisian squares set on the diagonal, each picking up stitches from its neighbours.

Overview

The finished surface looks convincingly woven, with tiles apparently passing over and under one another. Self-striping yarn exaggerates the effect because each tile takes its own section of the colour run.

Squares are small and self-contained, so despite the impressive result the technique is more about patience than difficulty.

Characteristics

  • Built from small diagonal Tunisian tiles
  • Basketweave-like woven appearance
  • Dramatic results with self-striping yarn
