Definition
Tunisian lace introduces deliberate holes into Tunisian fabric by adding yarn overs on the forward pass and combining stitches on the return.
Overview
It solves Tunisian crochet's biggest limitation — weight — while keeping the technique's characteristic vertical bars and neat grid structure. A larger hook amplifies the effect further.
Best worked in fibres with drape such as bamboo, silk blends or fine merino; a stiff cotton will keep the fabric boardy even when open.
Characteristics
- Yarn overs create planned openings
- Lighter and softer than standard Tunisian fabric
- Still worked in forward and return passes
Typical uses
- Shawls and wraps
- Summer tops
- Light scarves
- Baby blankets
